BRANTFORD, Ontario – Mia Martorelli, a grade 11 student at Assumption College School and Caroline Goveas, a grade 11 student at St. John’s College, will serve as the two Student Trustees on the Brant Haldimand Norfolk Catholic District School Board for the 2023-24 school year.
“I am pleased to welcome our two new Student Trustees to the Board,” said, Chair Rick Petrella. “Our Strategic Plan includes goals where the presence of student voice is paramount, and we know that Ms. Martorelli and Ms. Goveas will represent our student population well and bring a different and relevant perspective to the Boardroom table.”
Student Trustees work with the Student Senate to continue to focus on the goals of the Board’s Strategic Plan and represent the Brant Haldimand Norfolk Catholic District School Board at the provincial level as a member of the Ontario Catholic Student Trustees’ Association (OCSTA).
“A good leader should have integrity, self-awareness, courage, and respect. By being agile I believe I will use my positive influence while communicating and delegating effectively,” said newly elected Student Trustee Mia Martorelli. “One of my top priorities will be to ensure that there are a diverse range of voices being heard throughout the school board.”
“Catholic education in the BHNCDSB has always been a pillar of support for me,” said newly elected Student Trustee, Caroline Goveas. “As Student Trustee, I hope to be able to share and promote faith across school district, inspiring students of all ages to live out their faith. I truly believe that Catholic education has the power to shape and change young lives for the better.”
“I am pleased that now two students will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the role of Student Trustee and develop their leadership skills,” said Director of Education, Mike McDonald. “Our Student Trustees will also have the opportunity to connect the goals of our Strategic Plan to activities in the schools. I’d like to congratulate our new Student Trustees and look forward to working with them beginning in September.”
