The BHNCDSB values our Catholic community and strives to recognize individuals and groups who demonstrate a commitment and who have made a significant contribution to Catholic education. Distinguished Catholic Graduate Award

The Board believes in the importance of recognizing our Catholic school graduates who exemplify the Ontario Catholic School Graduate Expectations in their daily lives. The Distinguished Catholic Graduate Award will be bestowed annually at the Catholic Student Leadership Awards ceremony during Catholic Education Week.

Distinguished Catholic Graduate Award – Nomination Package (PDF 368 KB)

Submission deadline is 4:30 pm on February 15.

Eligibility

Any practising Roman Catholic who has graduated from either a Catholic elementary school and/or one of the Catholic secondary schools in the district. He or she does not need to reside within the district.

The nominee shall:      

  • be a practising Roman Catholic;
  • have lived a life of faith that demonstrates the Ontario Catholic School Graduate Expectations;
  • have distinguished himself/herself through service to the community that is rooted in gospel values;
  • have upheld the mission of the Board to live a life of love and service in Christ.

Nomination Process

The due date for nominations for the award will be February 15 annually.  All nominations shall be submitted to the Manager of Communications and Community Relations.

Nominators shall:

  1. Complete and submit the Rationale for Nomination for the Distinguished Catholic Graduate Award form.
  2. Complete and submit the Distinguished Catholic Graduate Award Nomination form, which must include the endorsement of three individuals.

The Director of Education shall evaluate all applications for completeness and send completed applications to the Catholic Education Advisory Committee for consideration by the end of February of each year.

Selection Process

  1. The Catholic Education Advisory Committee shall review all fully completed nominations, deliberate on the applications, and make a recommendation to the Board prior to the March Committee of the Whole meeting.
  2. The Board of Trustees shall make the final determination regarding the recipient of the award at the March Board Meeting.

Outstanding Contribution to Catholic Education Award

The Board believes in the importance of recognizing individuals in the Catholic community who have made or continue to make outstanding contributions to Catholic education in the district encompassing Brantford, Brant County, Haldimand County and Norfolk County. The Outstanding Contribution to Catholic Education Award will be bestowed annually at the Catholic Student Leadership Awards ceremony during Catholic Education Week.

Submission deadline is 4:30 pm on February 15.

Eligibility

Any practising Roman Catholic who has participated in, or contributed to the growth or success of Catholic education in the district. Posthumous and group nominations will be accepted. Unsuccessful nominees are eligible for subsequent nomination.

The nominee shall have:  

  • made a Christ-centred contribution to Catholic education in the district;
  • demonstrated leadership that is witness of Gospel values and an inspiration to others;
  • demonstrated actions that reflect the mission of the Board to live a life of love and service in Christ.
