Brantford – June 9, 2026
The Brant Haldimand Norfolk Catholic District School Board’s Special Education Department and Athletic Committee recently hosted the Have A Go event in Burford, bringing together students with special needs for a day of adaptive track and field activities.
The event was designed to support meaningful participation for all students and to highlight the Board’s belief that students share far more commonalities than differences. BHNCDSB maintains that every individual has a responsibility to contribute to a learning environment that promotes dignity, understanding and appreciation for each person’s strengths and capabilities.
Through the spirit of equality and team unity, Have A Go fostered an inclusive setting where all students could take part in physical activities tailored to their abilities. The day encouraged physical fitness and personal athletic achievement, while also creating opportunities for students to form new friendships. Participants demonstrated dedication, effort and school spirit throughout the event, building self‑confidence, positive self‑image and a strong sense of personal worth.
“The Have A Go event is a wonderful opportunity for our students to celebrate their abilities, build confidence, and experience the joy of participation and achievement,” said Sandra DeDominicis, Vice Principal of Inclusive Learning and Special Education. “It is truly a day for our students to shine. We are incredibly grateful to the dedicated staff, volunteers, and organizers whose commitment to inclusion creates meaningful and memorable experiences that our students will carry with them for years to come.”
“Let me win, but if I cannot win, let me be brave in the attempt.”
