Catholic Board Welcomes 2026 with the Launch of Staff Wellness and Engagement Strategy: “BE WELL AT BHN”
January 8, 2026 (Brantford) – As part of its ongoing commitment to develop a faith-filled community where all individuals are equipped and supported so they can live their best lives, the Brant Haldimand Norfolk Catholic District School Board (BHNCDSB) is pleased to announce the launch of its new Staff Wellness and Engagement Strategy: BE WELL AT BHN.
This enhanced system-wide commitment will support BHNCDSB in fostering safe, supportive, and connected workplaces where every staff member feels valued and empowered.
‘Your Voice Shapes our System’ guided the development of Be Well at BHN, following an extensive consultation process involving staff across all schools, departments, and teams throughout the district. The plan will roll out in phases to ensure lasting impact.
“Staff voice was instrumental in shaping the new strategy,” said Kevin Greco, Superintendent of Education, whose portfolio includes Staff Wellness and Wellbeing. “We took a holistic approach to the consultation, gathering data by visiting staff in every school and department, conducting surveys, and hosting in-person conversations with staff across the system. This process allowed us to better understand staff needs and create a strategy that directly reflects that feedback.”
BHNCDSB aims to strengthen organizational culture, enhance staff well-being, and building sustainable improvements across the Catholic learning community by implementing evidence-informed and industry proven wellness practices to support workplace wellbeing and engagement.
Key commitments of BE WELL AT BHN include:
- Wellness Matters – A healthy, supported and connected staff means better learning environments for students.
- Safe and supportive workplaces –maintaining environments where staff continue to feel respected, affirmed, and empowered to thrive.
- Valued voices – ensuring a variety of staff perspectives actively shape system direction and decision-making.
- Equity, inclusion, and belonging – embedding fairness, respect, civility, and cultural proficiency into every initiative.
- Balance and cohesion – fostering manageable workloads, teamwork, and opportunities for professional growth.
“The Ontario Ministry of Education’s Supporting Minds document reminds us that educators play a vital role in student well‑being and that mental health is foundational to achievement,” said Director of Education Mike McDonald. “By listening to their voice and addressing their concerns, staff feel mentally well, they are more present in their roles and have a stronger sense of belonging and can better support student success. By prioritizing staff wellness, we strengthen the consistency and care that supports student success and the educational and faith journeys of every learner.”
