Phil Wilson Appointed Principal of St. Michael’s College School

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

March 4, 2026 (Brantford) – The Brant Haldimand Norfolk Catholic District School Board announces that Phil Wilson has accepted the position of Principal at St. Michael’s College School in Toronto.

Over the past four years, Mr. Wilson has served as Superintendent of Education in a variety of roles, which have included Family of Schools, Athletics, Equity and Inclusivity, Student Achievement and Special Education as components of his portfolio. During that time, he provided steady leadership in support of students, families, and staff across the system. In a variety of roles throughout his career with the Board, he worked tirelessly, consistently placing students and student learning at the centre of decision-making.

Mr. Wilson brought a strong focus on evidence-informed practice to his work. He was highly skilled in using student achievement data and current research to guide planning and system improvement. His leadership supported thoughtful educational change grounded in measurable outcomes and responsive to student needs.

“Phil’s leadership has been grounded in faith, integrity, and a deep commitment to students,” said Chair Luciani. “He has strengthened our focus on achievement and equity while supporting school leaders and staff with clarity and purpose. We are grateful for his contributions and congratulate him on this well-deserved appointment.”

Superintendent Wilson played a key role in transforming the Special Education delivery model to strengthen equity and improve outcomes for students. He also introduced changes to support student achievement through Principal Professional Learning Communities, focused analysis of achievement data, and purposeful staffing aligned to identified needs.

“Phil will leave behind a legacy of exceptional faith filled, student centered leadership with a commitment to continuous improvement and will be greatly missed,” said Director Mike McDonald. “We wish him every success as he continues along a new path in his journey.”

Superintendent Wilson shared that, “It has been a true privilege to serve as Superintendent of Education with the Brant Haldimand Norfolk Catholic District School Board. I have deeply valued the opportunity to work alongside such a dedicated and talented team in service of our students and families. I have thoroughly enjoyed collaborating with our exceptional special education team, student achievement staff, and school administrators, whose commitment to student success inspires excellence every day, as well as the executive assistants whose steady support and collaboration have been greatly appreciated.”

“The exceptional leadership and contributions of the senior team have significantly influenced my professional journey, and I am especially grateful for the leadership of Director Mike McDonald, who has been a tremendous influence on my career. I also extend my sincere thanks to the Trustees for their confidence in my leadership and their steadfast commitment to Catholic education. I leave with immense gratitude and pride in all we have accomplished together in support of students across BHNCDSB.”

Superintendent Wilson’s tenure with the Board will end August 1, 2026. The Board will begin a search for its next Superintendent of Education immediately.
