Kindergarten Registration Moves to October at BHNCDSB

BRANTFORD, ON – If your child was born in 2023, this October is the time to register for Kindergarten beginning in September 2027. The Brant Haldimand Norfolk Catholic District School Board (BHNCDSB) is launching Kindergarten Registration Month this October. Families who register in October will receive an exclusive invitation to The Road to Kindergarten, a special event created for future Kindergarten students and their families.

The Road to Kindergarten gives children and families an exciting first look at the Kindergarten experience months before school begins. Future students will have the opportunity to meet educators, explore hands-on activities, experience some of the fun of Kindergarten and begin making connections with their new school community.

To receive an invitation to The Road to Kindergarten, families must complete their Kindergarten registration in October.

More than an information session, The Road to Kindergarten is a hands-on experience where future Kindergarten students can learn through play while becoming familiar with their new school community. Children will meet educators and principals, make new friends, climb aboard a school bus, meet police officers, firefighters and community partners, and enjoy interactive games and activities created especially for little learners.

As they make their way along The Road to Kindergarten, each child will receive a Kindergarten Roadmap and collect stickers as they visit activity stations throughout the event. By the end of the experience, they’ll have completed their first journey along the road to Kindergarten and leave excited about what lies ahead.

The adventure doesn’t end there. Families will head home with free books, learning activities, educational resources and Kindergarten-ready materials designed to encourage continued exploring, playing, reading, creating and learning in the months leading up to September.

Parents will also discover practical, everyday ways to encourage early literacy, numeracy, communication, independence, and learning through play. Along the way, families can visit the Kindergarten Checkpoint, connect with educators, ask questions, meet community organizations and learn more about what to expect as their child begins Kindergarten.

“The earliest years of a child’s education are crucial to their future success and sense of belonging,” shared Micheal Lawlor, Superintendent of Education. “The BHNCDSB is committed to supporting students and families on their Road to Kindergarten, providing opportunities for families to meet their child’s future educators and learn about the wide variety of services available in our community to support their child’s development.”

By moving Kindergarten Registration from January to October, BHNCDSB is giving families an earlier opportunity to learn about Kindergarten, connect with their future school community and access information and resources that will help prepare children for September.

“Starting Kindergarten is an important milestone for children and their families,” said Carol Luciani, Chair of the Board. “We want our future students to feel excited about starting school and families to feel welcomed and informed. The Road to Kindergarten event gives children a chance to experience some of what makes Kindergarten special, meet educators and begin feeling part of their new school community months before their first day.”

Families must register for Kindergarten in October to receive their exclusive invitation to The Road to Kindergarten, along with important Kindergarten information and updates throughout the year.
