Canvas Cybersecurity Incident – No Impact to BHNCDSB

You may have seen recent news regarding a cybersecurity incident involving Canvas, a platform used by some schools and organizations around the globe.

BHNCDSB does not use Canvas. This incident does not affect our schools, student information, or Board systems.

The reported issue involves organizations that use Canvas, where some user information may have been accessed. The situation is being investigated, and additional details may become available.

Our Board follows Ontario privacy legislation, including the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (MFIPPA), and adheres to best practices outlined by the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Ontario to protect student and family information.

If your child or family members use Canvas outside of BHNCDSB (for example, through another school board or program), you may wish to follow updates from that organization and review any guidance they provide.

As always, we remain committed to maintaining safe, secure, and privacy-protective learning environments.

Thank you for your continued support.
