10 BHNCDSB Students Earn OECTA Young Authors Awards

The Brant Haldimand Norfolk Catholic District School Board is celebrating the creative achievements of 10 students recognized in the 2025 – 2026 OECTA Young Authors Awards, an annual writing competition that invites Kindergarten to Grade 12 students to submit original works of fiction, poetry, plays, and nonfiction in both English and French. 

The Board extends its congratulations to this year’s Young Authors Awards winners: 

  • Jesus Feeds 5000 (Nonfiction)
    By: Radiance Olaoluwa Oladayo (Junior and Senior Kindergarten)
  • One Funny Night (Short Story)
    By: Eva Milasincic (Grades 1-2)
  • Yellow (Poem)
    By: Margaux Waltenbury (Grades 1-2)
  • Louder than Silence: The Impact on Teens (Play)
    By: Allison Whelan (Grades 5-6)
  • Appendicitis (Nonfiction)
    By: Sophia Desmond (Grades 5-6)
  • Unfinished Ending (Poem)
    By: Sanam Ghodiwala (Grades 9-10)
  • The Silence that Affects the Mind (Nonfiction)
    By: Brooke-Lynn Caruana (Grades 11-12)
  • La tornade terrifiante (Short Story)
    By: Alexandra Snisar (Grades 3-4)
  • Mon autobiographie (Nonfiction)
    By: Jackson Taylor (Grades 3-4)
  • Ma vie de lutin (Short Story)
    By: Veronika Shramko (Grades 7-8)

These pieces reflect the imagination, voice, and literary talent of students across BHNCDSB, and highlight the importance of fostering creativity and expression in Catholic education.
