Name Our New North-East Brant Catholic Elementary School

A new Catholic secondary school is being built at 353 Powerline Road in Brantford and is anticipated to open during the 2027–28 school year.

As we prepare to welcome students, families and staff into this new school community, the Brant Haldimand Norfolk Catholic District School Board is beginning the process of selecting a name for the school.

A school name is an important part of its identity. It is an opportunity to reflect our Catholic faith, celebrate our shared values and establish a meaningful identity for generations of students to come.

Students, families, staff, parish communities and members of the broader BHNCDSB community are invited to suggest a name for our new Catholic secondary school.

What Kind of Names Can Be Suggested?

In accordance with the BHNCDSB Naming of Schools Policy, suggested names must reflect the Catholic identity of our school system.

  • Our Lord
  • Our Lady
  • a Saint
  • an exemplary Catholic figure of historical significance
  • a Catholic tradition

The official school name will normally include the designation Catholic Secondary School. Names already used by another BHNCDSB school cannot be duplicated (see full list of existing names), and the possessive form is not used.

When suggesting a name, participants will be asked to provide a brief explanation of why they believe the name would be meaningful for the new school community.

Submit a School Name

We want to hear from you.

Complete the School Naming Consultation Survey to suggest a name and tell us why you believe it would be a meaningful choice for our new Catholic secondary school.

Submissions will be accepted until Sunday, October 18, 2026, 11:59 p.m.

What Happens Next?

  1. Suggestions will be gathered from the school community, other BHNCDSB communities and Board employees.
  2. The School Naming Committee (consisting of the Superintendent of the new school, a trustee, local pastor, a principal, a teacher, and parent representatives) will review the eligible suggestions and recommend a maximum of three names to the Board of Trustees.
  3. The Committee’s submission to Trustees will include a summary of the proposed names, the consultation process and relevant input received.
  4. Trustees will consider the recommended names during an open session of the Board.
  5. The Bishop of the Diocese of Hamilton will be consulted regarding the suitability of the proposed name.
  6. Following the Board’s local process, the proposed name will be submitted to the Ministry of Education for approval, as required under section 174 of the Education Act and the Ministry’s School Naming Policy.
  7. Once the required approvals are complete, the school name will be announced to the community.
