Brantford – At last night’s Board meeting, Trustees of the Brant Haldimand Norfolk Catholic District School Board approved a balanced budget for the 2023-24 School Year totalling $183.6 million. The overall budget is comprised of the total operating budget of $165.9 million and the total capital budget of $17.7 million.
“Developing the 2023-24 budget presented several challenges, however guided by the 2020-23 Strategic Plan, every effort has been made to limit the impact on students,” said Chair of the Board, Rick Petrella. “We were able to continue to prioritize student learning, student and staff mental health, well-being and safety, and engagement, while presenting a balanced budget. We are pleased that staff were able to maintain or increase classroom-based staffing levels despite the expiration of the COVID-19 Learning Recovery Fund.”
Again this year, the Board has experienced tremendous growth in our student enrolment and is extremely excited to welcome over 250 new students to Catholic elementary and secondary schools. This represents about a 2.2% increase in enrolment from prior year.
The capital budget, of about $17.7 million, includes several facility renewals projects which are designed to create a safe and more comfortable learning environment for our students and staff and includes HVAC upgrades, site work, asphalt, roofing, and accessibility enhancements. In addition, we continue to prepare for our new Catholic elementary and secondary schools in Caledonia and Brantford, respectively.
Chair of the Board, Rick Petrella also holds the role of Chair of the Budget Committee.
