For Immediate Release
(Brant, Haldimand, Norfolk) – The Brant Haldimand Norfolk Catholic District School Board (BHNCDSB) is pleased to announce the launch of Grade 9 Technological Education courses available through after-school and night school programs. The new program will begin at Assumption College School in Brantford during the 2024-25 second semester and this summer, in-person courses will be available at all BHNCDSB secondary schools.
This initiative supports students in meeting the new compulsory Technological Education credit required by the Ministry of Education for students who entered grade 9 September 2024 or after.
Rather than replacing a desired course to fit the compulsory credit into their schedule, BHNCDSB students can now acquire their Technological Education credit outside the regular school day hours. This affords BHNCDSB students more choices and opportunities to explore topics when filling their timetables. These courses will begin in February 2025, as part of the 2024-25 school year Semester 2 and continue for future BHNCDSB students.
“This was such an exciting opportunity to work with the school teams to bring these courses to life,” said Amy Pimentel, Principal of Alternative and Continuing Education. “The principals and teachers worked hard behind the scenes to see what worked best for their school communities.”
“It took a lot of people to make this come together for the students to have extra opportunities to learn and meet these requirements,” added John Della Fortuna, Superintendent of Education. “We are very excited to see how this looks moving forward and are thrilled to provide this flexible learning opportunity to support student success and skill development in Technological Education.”
Future Grade 9 students and families can learn more about BHNCDSB opportunities like the After-Hours Technological Education Credits by attending an open house this week!
